The Fifth step

Once again Mi are delighted to have worked with Milla Clarke and the National Theatre of Scotland on this imaginative spinning set that allowed for the action throughout the show to flow seamlessly from room to room.

Set Design - Milla Clarke

It became apparent at early production meeting that this wasn’t just a set of rooms on a revolve. This interesting set reveals different rooms and meeting spaces, from a café through to a hospital, all with hidden design elements and features, lighting effects and a rain bar.

This clever but complicated design had internal walls that are removed as the play progresses, it all complements the action on stage - with the set gradually falling apart at the seams as the play progresses.

All with the National Theatre of Scotland’s ‘green action plan’ and commitment to sustainability taken into consideration. Suddenly pieces of steel deck, old discarded seats, used flattage etc all appeared on the doorstep of the workshop to be reused, recycled and repurposed within the build.
